But what you'll have to do is exactly what he says -- leave him alone for now. I know it's very painful, but it's really the best way to go. Give him at least three weeks. Let him deal with whatever's bothering him, and then take steps to renew contact. I don't want to push Travis' book on you, but it really is very comforting and helpful in situations such as these. So much of the pain comes from the fear of losing someone you love forever. If you have hope -- realistic hope and a common sense plan -- then you'd feel better immediately. But yes, you'll have to stop trying to contact him. Absolutely. Totally. As a matter-of-fact, you might want to take it a step further: Write him a letter, telling him that you agree with the breakup. Shocking? Yes, but it works.
